Thanksgiving short story

🦃🤖 BOOPER SAVES THE TURKEY

                    by Jan Peck

Booper loved Thanksgiving.
He loved the fall leaves…
He loved the yummy smells…

On Thanksgiving morning, Booper marched into the yard and froze.

Right in the middle of the grass walked
a turkey.

A real, feather-fluffing, wobble-waddling turkey!

Booper’s antenna flickered.
His sensors beeped.

“EMERGENCY ALERT!” Booper cried.
“TROTTING TURKEY in TROUBLE!”

The turkey let out a friendly “Gobble?”

“Don’t worry, turkey!” he said.
“I, BOOPER THE BRAVE, will save you!”

Booper scooped up the turkey. “RESCUE MISSION!”

The turkey flapped.
Booper zigzagged.
Leaves flew everywhere.

Booper dodged the picnic table.
He leaped over a pumpkin.
He nearly ran straight into a big pile of leaves.

“Saving the turkey!” Booper announced.

Mrs. Moon laughed.  It’s all right, Booper. This turkey is my pet!”

The turkey gobbled.

Booper blinked his bright yellow eyes.
“Pet? Not dinner? No danger?”

Mrs. Moon nodded. “He wanders the neighborhood every fall. He’s totally safe!”

Booper looked down at the turkey in his arms.
The turkey blinked up at him.

Booper set the turkey down.

The turkey strutted in a big circle,
then hopped into Booper’s lap and snuggled in like a giant fluff-ball.

“Aww,” Mrs. Moon said. “I think he likes you.”

Booper’s said,
“I like him too.”

The turkey gave a “Gobble-gobble!”

Booper giggled.
“Boop-boop! Happy THANKS-a-lot-giving, turkey friend!”
