Thanksgiving short story
đŚđ¤ BOOPER SAVES THE TURKEY
          by Jan Peck
Booper loved Thanksgiving.
He loved the fall leavesâŚ
He loved the yummy smellsâŚ
On Thanksgiving morning, Booper marched into the yard and froze.
Right in the middle of the grass walked
a turkey.
A real, feather-fluffing, wobble-waddling turkey!
Booperâs antenna flickered.
His sensors beeped.
âEMERGENCY ALERT!â Booper cried.
âTROTTING TURKEY in TROUBLE!â
The turkey let out a friendly âGobble?â
âDonât worry, turkey!â he said.
âI, BOOPER THE BRAVE, will save you!â
Booper scooped up the turkey. âRESCUE MISSION!â
The turkey flapped.
Booper zigzagged.
Leaves flew everywhere.
Booper dodged the picnic table.
He leaped over a pumpkin.
He nearly ran straight into a big pile of leaves.
âSaving the turkey!â Booper announced.
Mrs. Moon laughed. It’s all right, Booper. This turkey is my pet!”
The turkey gobbled.
Booper blinked his bright yellow eyes.
âPet? Not dinner? No danger?â
Mrs. Moon nodded. âHe wanders the neighborhood every fall. Heâs totally safe!â
Booper looked down at the turkey in his arms.
The turkey blinked up at him.
Booper set the turkey down.
The turkey strutted in a big circle,
then hopped into Booperâs lap and snuggled in like a giant fluff-ball.
âAww,â Mrs. Moon said. âI think he likes you.â
Booperâs said,
âI like him too.â
The turkey gave a âGobble-gobble!â
Booper giggled.
âBoop-boop! Happy THANKS-a-lot-giving, turkey friend!â
